Shmyhal, Zourabichvili discuss trade and economic cooperation between Ukraine and Georgia

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal has met with President of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili in Kyiv.

The parties discussed the improvement of trade and economic cooperation, the implementation of joint infrastructure projects and the development of tourism between the countries, according to the Government portal.

"I am sure that by joint efforts we will bring our economic relations to a qualitatively new level. Trade turnover between our countries has prospects for growth, and we are convinced that it can be increased to USD 1 billion. This, in particular, will be advanced by the resumption of work of the Ukraine-Georgia Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation. We have agreed with the Prime Minister of Georgia to hold its next meeting in September 2021," Shmyhal said.

The prime minister noted the importance of restoring the tourism sector after the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I hope that the gradual removal of coronavirus restrictions in our countries will help restore the tourist flow. During the meeting with the Prime Minister of Georgia, we agreed on mutual recognition of vaccination certificates. The note with the relevant proposals was submitted to the Georgian side last week. We are waiting for a response as soon as possible," Shmyhal stressed.

President of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili is on an official visit to Ukraine on June 23.
