Ukraine’s electricity exports exceed imports by more than 13 times in May

In May 2021, Ukraine’s total volume of electricity exports amounted to 460 million kWh, which is 13.2 times more than the total volume of electricity imports, which totaled 34.9 million kWh over the reporting month, Ukrinform reports with reference to the press service of Ukrenergo National Power Company.

Compared to April 2021, Ukraine’s electricity exports increased by 21%, while imports decreased by 12.9%.

"Starting from May 27, under the decision of the National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Public Utilities (Resolution No.853 of May 26, 2021), the capacity was limited to 0 MW in the directions Russia-Ukraine and Belarus-Ukraine," Ukrenergo reminded.

According to the company, the volume of imports from all countries in May 2021 was 0.3% of total electricity consumption (gross), in particular, the Burshtyn TPP Energy Island - 66% of the total volume, to the Ukrainian United Energy System - 34%.

In total, over the first five months of 2021, electricity imports from Belarus reached 522.6 million kWh (53% of the total) and from Slovakia - 254.4 million kWh (26%).

At the same time, electricity exports in May increased in almost all directions, except Romania. The largest volumes were exported from the Burshtyn TPP Energy Island - 70% of the total.

In total, over the first five months of 2021, the share of electricity exports to Hungary was 696.4 million kWh (49.7% of the total), to Poland - 353.3 million kWh (25.2%).

As Ukrinform reported, the restrictions imposed on electricity imports from Russia and Belarus by the National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Public Utilities will be in effect until October 1, 2021.
