Ukrainian farmers already sown 20% of projected area with spring grain crops

In particular, 678 thousand hectares were sown with early spring crops over the past week, including 124.2 thousand hectares (70%) with wheat, 1.06 million hectares (76%) - barley; 134.6 thousand hectares (69%) – oats, 177.2 thousand hectares (75%) – peas.

Farmers in the majority of regions started sowing sunflowers - 390 thousand hectares (6%), and 11 regions started sowing corn - 36 thousand hectares (1%). Farmers in Zaporizhzhia region started sowing millet, in Volyn and Rivne regions - soybeans.

In addition, farmers in 13 regions sowed 74 thousand hectares with sugar beets, which is 33% of the projected area.

According to preliminary data received from the regions, the area of ​​crops in all categories of farms for the 2021 harvest is expected to be within 28.1 million hectares, or 378 thousand hectares more than in 2020.

The area under grain crops in all categories of farms could total 15.5 million hectares, or 55% in the structure of sown areas, which corresponds to the optimal crop ratio in crop rotations. As expected, farmers will sow spring grain crops on the area of ​​7.6 million hectares, sunflower on 5.4 million hectares, soybeans on 1.4 million hectares, sugar beets on about 223 thousand hectares.
