"By the end of this year, we must complete the reform [of the customs service],” he said in an interview with Ukrinform.
Hetmantsev also stressed that a decision of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) of April 2, 2021 on the application of sanctions against smugglers will facilitate the process of customs reform.
As reported by Ukrinform, on April 2, the NSDC approved a decision ‘On the application of personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions)’. Under the decision, the NSDC supported the proposals made by the Security Service of Ukraine on the application of personal special economic and other sanctions against ten individuals for a period of three years.
After the NSDC meeting, more than 100 employees of the State Customs Service, including heads of customs and customs posts, were dismissed.
On April 4, 2021, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree enacting the relevant decision of the NSDC.
The new State Customs Service officially started its work in Ukraine in December 2021.
