Ukraine’s overall progress in the implementation of the Association Agreement with the European Union has reached 54% since 2014.

“If we talk about the implementation of the agreement in general, the progress was really small (34%) in 2020. However, the overall progress [since 2014 to date] is 54%. It should be understood that the main scope of obligations is designed for the first five years of implementation of the Agreement. At the moment, the number of these obligations is very small,” Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanishyna said in an interview with Glavcom media outlet.

The Vice Prime Minister stressed that despite little progress in 2020, the performance of the Agreement has been growing significantly since its signing.

“If we consider the entire dynamics of the implementation of the Association Agreement for the period from 2014 up to now, the figures for the past year have increased significantly. For example, in the field of transport, the dynamics of progress in adapting legislation and regulation has never exceeded 16% of the annual plan since 2014, being considered a success. In 2020, this progress reached 50%,” she said.

According to Stefanishyna, Ukraine has already proved that it implements the Association Agreement by making the system of trade in industrial products operate completely in accordance with the European rules and developing competition legislation.

Currently, the implementation of the Agreement depends more on the European side, the official noted

In this context, she noted that a joint assessment of the implementation of the Agreement would be conducted and presented at the next EU-Ukraine summit.

As reported, the 22nd EU-Ukraine summit took place in Brussels in October 2020.
