The State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine and the German Energy Agency (DENA) signed a memorandum of cooperation in the field of energy efficiency and renewable energy.

"By concluding the memorandum, the parties agreed to deepen the partnership aimed at joint development of tools to improve energy efficiency and use of renewable energy sources in Ukraine, as well as to implement joint projects on a mutually beneficial basis. The memorandum will become one of the mechanisms for implementing the tasks within the framework of the Ukrainian-German energy partnership launched in August 2020," the press service of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine informs.

The main areas of cooperation are energy strategy and energy policy, considering measures to support energy efficiency and development of renewable energy; use of energy storage technologies; energy efficiency in industry and buildings; heat energy reforms; strengthening research, innovation and competitiveness.

To achieve the goals, the parties will cooperate to improve public policy instruments (legislative initiatives, support mechanisms, etc.) in Ukraine, considering the norms of EU directives and the experience of Germany; draft joint proposals for the introduction of innovative technologies in these areas; develop concepts, norms, methods; jointly develop and guide projects; organize training and skill improvement for experts.

"Germany is a strategic partner of Ukraine, especially in energy efficiency reforms. This is proved by close cooperation with GIZ, the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, the Heinrich Böll Foundation. Today, we are pleased to renew and continue cooperation with a long-standing partner, the well-known German center for research and expertise on energy transition — the German Energy Agency," Kostiantyn Hura, the Acting Head of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine, commented on the signing of the memorandum.

In August 2020, Ukraine and Germany launched an energy partnership aimed at consolidating various energy projects implemented by the German government in Ukraine.
