Russia’s Gazprom has reduced gas transit through the territory of Ukraine almost threefold, according to CEO of Gas Transmission System Operator (TSO) of Ukraine LLC Sergiy Makogon.

"Gazprom has reduced gas transit through Ukraine from about 180 million per day (late December) to about 130 million per day (early January)," Makogon wrote on Facebook.

At the same time, he stressed that Gas TSO Operator of Ukraine is ready to provide a larger volume of transit if there are relevant requests from Gazprom.

The agreement on gas transit operations with Gazprom provides for the capacity booking in the amount of 65 billion cubic meters (178 million cubic meters per day) in 2020 and 40 billion cubic meters (110 million cubic meters per day) in 2021-2024. Last year, gas transit was 14% less (or 9.2 billion cubic meters) than provided for in the agreement. At the same time, Gazprom has already fully paid for the entire volume of ordered capacities under the contract based on the "pump or pay" principle.

As reported by Ukrinform, Gas TSO of Ukraine LLC transported 55.8 billion cubic meters of gas to Europe in 2020, which is 38% less than in 2019.
