Ukraine preparing political agreement to join European Green Deal

"Ukraine follows the Green Deal principles and now we are preparing a political agreement to be signed between Ukraine and the EU to join and implement the Green Deal," Acting Chairman of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine Konstiantyn Hura said, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

He reminded that the National Action Plan for Energy Efficiency until 2030 had been submitted to the Government for consideration. An energy efficiency project was also finalized.

"We had a plan until 2020, now it has actually been implemented. We have more ambitious goals to be reached by 2030," Hura said.

As reported, the Ministry of Energy together with the State Agency on Energy Efficiency developed and submitted to the Government a draft order of the Cabinet of Ministers "On the National Action Plan for Energy Efficiency until 2030."

Consultants from the Energy Community Secretariat were involved in the elaboration of the draft within the framework of EU4Energy Governance international technical assistance project.

The basis for the elaboration of the National Action Plan is the fulfillment of Ukraine’s international obligations under the Association Agreement and the Treaty establishing the Energy Community.

The project stipulates that the primary and final energy consumption in Ukraine in 2030 should not exceed 91,468 and 50,446 tonnes of oil equivalent, respectively.
