Anna Burka, a national advisor at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) wrote about this on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.
"During elven months of 2020, honey exports from Ukraine reached an absolute record - 69.8 thousand tonnes with a total value of $117.5 million. The previous record was registered in 2017 and amounted to 67.8 thousand tonnes ($133.9 million),” she wrote.
According to the FAO expert, the high demand for Ukrainian honey is observed in the European Union and is due to a number of reasons: uncertainty with the further development of COVID-19 situation, and accordingly the active formation of stocks for the entire 2020-2021 season.
Another reason for the growth of honey exports from Ukraine to the European Union is poor harvest of honey in the EU. According to preliminary estimates, honey production in European countries dropped by 40% due to adverse weather conditions.
