Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that the world's creative economy has never been as timely as it is now due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and it should become a priority for Ukraine's strategic development.

He noted this in a video address at the international forum "Creative Ukraine," according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"The pandemic requires a systematic approach, taking into account possible risks, critical attitude to the turbulent information space, flexibility and creativity to find non-standard solutions that can save the world. Therefore, the creative economy has never been as timely as it is now," Zelensky said.

He stressed that creativity is not about entertainment. According to him, the foundations of the creative economy are an understanding of the use of resources, the ability to capitalize on talent, intelligence, skill and the ability to sell relevant solutions to the planet in culture and medicine, as well as opportunities for self-realization.

He said that this year Ukraine has launched many initiatives to support Ukrainian creative industries, develop tourist infrastructure, restore cultural monuments as part of the "Great Restoration" project, and to create effective hubs in Ukraine's regions.

"The creative economy should become a priority for Ukraine's strategic development. For this purpose, we have talented people, unique cultural resources, and heritage. Now the creative industries are reminiscent of a Phoenix that rises from the ashes: it rises renewed, young, strong and adapted to a new life and to a new reality. And the state will do all it can to make this reality for the creative industries comfortable and the conditions as favorable as possible," Zelensky said.

A two-day international forum "Creative Ukraine" is being held in Ukraine to discuss optimal ways to support the development of the state's creative economy. The main organizer of the event is the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy.
