Ukraine’s creative industry has lost $3 billion, accounting for 2% of GDP, due to the coronavirus epidemic and the introduced quarantine measures in the country.

"What are the quarantine’s consequences in terms of the creative economy? Three billion dollars, accounting for 2% of GDP, and 300,000 jobs have been lost. If we continue in the same way, the prospects look bleak: 10% of GDP loss or one third of people who will lose their jobs," Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko said at the Creative Ukraine 4th annual international forum, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

He also noted that public investment, which was attracted to the creative industry, was currently being lost and wasted because there is no audience. If we continue to move in this direction, the state will come to nowhere, wasting taxpayers' money, Tkachenko stressed. According to the minister, the state should focus on development, on grants for institutional support for creative industries.

As reported, the Creative Ukraine 4th annual international forum is held in offline and online formats due to the coronavirus pandemic. Over two days, the participants will consider the current state and prospects of creative industries in Ukraine.

Representatives of the Ukrainian authorities, EU and British officials, well-known figures of creative industries, representatives of HBO and other world-famous companies, Stanford and Harvard professors, founders and managers of leading Ukrainian businesses working in the creative sector of the economy are among the guests and participants of the forum.
