Ukraine exported 10M tonnes of wheat in 2020/2021 MY

Ukraine has exported 10.04 million tonnes of wheat since the start of the 2020/2021 marketing year (MY) (July 1 - October 23), which is almost 0.5 million tonnes less compared with the same period last year, the information and analytical portal of the agro-industrial complex of Ukraine reports with reference to data provided by the State Customs Service.

In total, 14.8 million tonnes of grain and leguminous crops were exported during the reporting period (almost 2.2 million less compared with the same period last year).

As reported by Ukrinform, the Ukrainian Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture and grain market participants in mid-August signed an annex to the grain memorandum on the maximum volume of grain exports in the 2020/2021 MY at the level of 17.5 million tonnes of wheat.

In the October report, the Ukrainian Grain Association clarified the estimate of this year's wheat harvest - the figure was reduced from 26.6 million tonnes to 25.3 million tonnes.

According to the Economy Ministry, as of October 19, Ukrainian farmers threshed 47.4 million tonnes of grain and leguminous crops from an area of 12.3 million hectares (80% of the forecast).

At a briefing on October 22, Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Dmytro Solohub stated that the central bank lowered its grain harvest forecast in 2020 from 72 million tonnes to 67 million tonnes. At the same time, the regulator does not expect an imbalance in the foreign exchange market due to a decrease in revenues from grain exports.
