Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and representatives of the German Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations discussed ways to improve the investment and business climate between Ukraine and Germany, infrastructure projects, energy efficiency initiatives and digitalization, according to the Ukrainian government’s press service.

“We appreciate the contribution of German business to the development of the national economy. Strong economic relations have been established between our countries and Germany is one of Ukraine's key partners in trade and investment," the prime minister said, adding that despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Ukraine continues to implement structural reforms to improve the business climate.

According to Shmyhal, Germany is a strategic partner of Ukraine in Europe, and about 2,500 German companies operate in Ukraine.

The prime minister also noted that one of the tools to improve the business environment in Ukraine is the reform of the digital transformation and the development of mobile communications and the Internet. In particular, 4G coverage of 95% of Ukraine's territory and the establishment of international highways with mobile Internet.

In addition, according to the prime minister, the development of the logistics industry remains an important priority.

Shmyhal noted that Ukraine and Germany have good prospects in the field of energy partnership and reminded that the two countries signed agreements on energy cooperation at the end of August.

The prime minister also said he hopes that the fourth economic conference, jointly with the German-Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, scheduled for March 2021 in Berlin, would be held as planned. He also invited the leadership of the German Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations to pay a visit to Kyiv.
