Ukraine climbs four spots in economic freedom ranking

Ukrinform
Ukraine has climbed four spots in the global economic freedom ranking, but remains the only European country in the category of economically unfree countries, according to the Fraser Institute's annual Economic Freedom of the World report released on September 10.

Ukraine climbed four places in the ranking from 135th to 131th due to such indicators as the size of government, sound money and freedom to trade internationally.

At the same time, Ukraine remains in the group of the most economically unfree countries and is the only European country there.

The ranking is led by Hong Kong and Singapore. Venezuela is in the last, 162nd place.

The ratings in this year's report are based on data for 2018. The cornerstones of economic freedom are personal choice, voluntary exchange, freedom to enter markets and compete, and security of the person and privately owned property.
