The foreign ministers of Ukraine and the Republic of Kenya, Dmytro Kuleba and Raychelle Omamo, agreed to intensify trade and investment cooperation between the countries.

The two ministers had a phone conversation on August 27, according to the Foreign Ministry’s press service.

“The interlocutors dwelled on the prospects of trade cooperation. Kuleba assured that the Ukrainian government considers Kenya as a leading partner in East Africa and seeks to strengthen such a partnership in practice," the report reads.

The ministers stressed the importance of creating a Joint Intergovernmental Trade and Economic Commission as an effective mechanism for coordinating interagency cooperation in such promising areas as trade, agriculture, industry, air service, education and tourism.

During the conversation, the parties discussed the prospects of deepening cooperation and praised the level of mutual support within international organizations.

The foreign ministers also agreed to intensify work on building the legal framework of Ukrainian-Kenyan relations, including the preparations for signing the Convention between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the Republic of Kenya on Avoidance of Double Taxation and Prevention of Tax Evasion on Income and Capital Taxes, as well as the Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the Republic of Kenya on Mutual Assistance and Protection of Investments and other bilateral documents.

Dmytro Kuleba and Raychelle Omamo exchanged invitations to pay working visits after the stabilization of the epidemiological situation in the world.

For reference: The Republic of Kenya is one of Ukraine's important partners in sub-Saharan Africa. The total volume of trade in goods with Kenya in 2019 amounted to almost USD 80 million. The parties seek to develop mutually beneficial cooperation in agriculture, aviation and education.
