Ukraine is interested in concluding a comprehensive free trade agreement (FTA) with Turkey, which will help expand access to markets for goods and services.

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry for Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture following the conference entitled "Ukraine-Turkey: New Opportunities for Cooperation".

“In 2019, Turkey ranked first among the countries of the Middle East region in terms of the volume of trade with Ukraine. At the same time, the potential and opportunities for expanding bilateral trade have not been fully realized. Ukraine is interested in concluding a comprehensive Ukraine-Turkey Free Trade Agreement, which will help expand access to the markets for goods and services,” Deputy Economy Minister Taras Kachka said.

According to him, one of the main tools for enhancing bilateral cooperation in the economic sector is the Ukraine-Turkey Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation.

The deputy minister confirmed the readiness of the Ukrainian side to hold a meeting of the Commission in Odesa in September.

In the first half of 2020, trade between the countries reached USD 2.27 billion, which is 1.7% more than in the same period last year. At the same time, Ukraine is interested in increasing the export of finished products. In addition, among the main directions for the development of bilateral cooperation are IT, innovation, industry, energy and energy efficiency, logistics, transport infrastructure, tourism and the like.
