Infrastructure Ministry plans to draft aviation strategy by the end of autumn

The Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine is currently drafting its aviation strategy and plans to complete it by the end of autumn.

"Now we are working on aviation strategy. Soon we will start to promote this process very actively with large consulting companies. I think that by the end of autumn we will have the final product - with details, numbers, understanding, with all the KPIs - and will be able to synchronize processes," Infrastructure Minister Vladyslav Kryklii said in an interview with the Ekonomichna Pravda online media outlet.

Commenting on President Zelensky's words about the need to create a state-owned airline in Ukraine which will use aircraft of domestic production, Kryklii noted that this issue should be considered in the context of aviation strategy. "The airline itself is probably not interesting. But a carrier, which has links with airports, hubs and develops a transit model, is becoming more interesting," he said.

According to the minister, it would also be interesting if such an airline operated domestic flights and supplied the Antonov design bureau with many orders.

Kryklii stressed that Antonov should be taken to a new level as now the enterprise "produces little" and is mainly engaged in cargo-carrying operations.

On April 22, President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his conviction that a state airline should be established in Ukraine with aircraft of domestic production in its fleet. He expressed outrage that such a large state-owned enterprise as Antonov design bureau had not built a single aircraft in recent years.
