EU extends economic sanctions against Russia for six months

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba has welcomed the decision of the European Union leaders to extend economic sanctions against Russia for another six months.

“I welcome today’s political decision of EU leaders to extend economic sanctions against Russia for 6 more months. Since 2014, EU sanctions policy has helped deter Russian aggression against Ukraine. Sanctions send a clear signal: Russia needs to fully implement Minsk agreements,” Kuleba posted on Twitter on June 19.

On June 18, the Council of the European Union extended for another year (until June 2021) sanctions against Russia imposed for the illegal occupation of Crimea.

In July 2014, the European Union imposed economic sanctions on Russia for the annexation of Crimea and destabilizing actions in eastern Ukraine. In September 2014, these sanctions were strengthened.
