Four airlines announce resumption of flights to Ukraine

Ukrinform
Four airlines have already announced the resumption of flights to Ukraine in June and July 2020: Czech Airlines, Lufthansa, SWISS, and Wizz Air.

"The airlines gradually announce their plans to resume flights to Ukraine... The presence of a flight on the list does not mean that it will be operated. This is linked with a fact that airlines declare their desire to fly on specific routes, but countries may maintain restrictions on flights. Ukraine has not yet set a date when it will allow operating scheduled international flights and to which countries," avianews.com informs.

Czech Airlines announced the start of scheduled daily Prague-Kyiv flights from June 3 and the start of scheduled Prague-Odesa flights from June 4 on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

Also, from June 1, Lufthansa plans to resume scheduled Frankfurt-Kyiv flights up to three times a week. Ticket sales are open for flights in June on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

From June 21, SWISS plans to operate Zurich-Kyiv flights on Sundays.

In July, Wizz Air plans to open bases in Lviv and start flying on seven new routes from Lviv and Kharkiv.

"Other airlines may sell tickets for flights to Ukraine from May 23. This is due to the fact that the Government has officially extended the quarantine until May 22. However, the restrictions may be extended again. The abovementioned airlines confirmed the resumption of flights under the new schedule. Other airlines simply did not close ticket sales for later dates after the restrictions had been imposed," avianews.com notes.

As reported, on March 12, the Government introduced the quarantine in Ukraine to counteract the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus infection. In particular, trading establishments were closed except groceries, pharmacies, gas stations, and banks. The operation of subway in Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Dnipro, municipal, intercity, and interregional road, rail, and air transport services were suspended. On March 28, Ukraine completely closed its border for scheduled passenger services, including air services.

The quarantine was extended until May 22 but restriction measures were eased from May 11.

The Infrastructure Ministry of Ukraine stated that the airlines, which announce flights from Ukraine in May-June, simply mislead people as the resumption of flights to other countries from Ukraine has not been discussed yet.
