In Ukraine, 490 thousand citizens are officially registered as unemployed.

"Today, with 490,000 persons officially registered as unemployed, we can say that the statistics on reduction in the number of unemployed will demonstrate the effectiveness of the government's plan [to create 500,000 jobs]. Or if it is ineffective, the statistics will also reflect this and we will be able to respond to this and act to provide our people with jobs," Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said at the Cabinet’s meeting on Wednesday, May 13, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

According to him, more than 200,000 Ukrainians have officially registered as unemployed since the beginning of the quarantine. "It's practical in a month. That's why our goal is not only to save jobs within the framework of support for small and micro businesses, now we're working to support medium-sized businesses and large industrial entrepreneurs in certain industries," he added.

Shmyhal reminded that Ukraine had a program to create 500,000 jobs.

"It is proposed to create 154,000 jobs in the areas of construction and road infrastructure, 150,000 jobs – in the field of provision of public amenities, 80,000 jobs – in agriculture. We have a specific responsible for each program, it's not just a plan on paper," the Prime Minister said.
