Ukraine’s inflation remained low in April - NBU

Ukraine’s inflation remained low in April 2020 – below 3% in annual terms, the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) said in its Inflation Report for April 2020.

"Annual inflation remained low in April - less than 3%, according to NBU’s early estimates,” reads the report.

The NBU recalled that in the first weeks since the introduction of quarantine restrictions in Ukraine, there was significant fluctuations in prices for goods and services. Due to the surging demand and logistics problems in the second half of March, some food products and essential goods went up in prices sharply. The prices of certain goods, including imported ones or with imported components, were also affected by the hryvnia's weakening in March.

"However, since the beginning of April, price growth has weakened, and prices for some goods have even decreased. This was facilitated by the weakening of the heightened consumer demand and the strengthening of the hryvnia," the NBU said.

As Ukrinform reported, Ukraine’s consumer inflation in March made up 2.3% year-on-year.
