Ukraine should become an international transport hub and Azerbaijan is an important partner to achieve this goal, Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Vladyslav Krykliy has stated.

He said this at the Ukraine-Azerbaijan round table within the framework of the 12th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Azerbaijani Commission on Economic Cooperation held at the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Kyiv on January 30, 2020, according to the Government portal.

“The development of international transport links is one of the priorities of the Government of Ukraine. We set ambitious goals and started to implement them. Ukraine should become an international transport hub, and Azerbaijan is an important partner to achieve this goal. The Ukrainian state is interested in developing mutually beneficial cooperation with Azerbaijan in all areas, in particular infrastructure and transport. Topical issues include the creation of favorable conditions for transport operations between the countries and the development of a Europe-Caucasus-Asia transport corridor. These are key elements for developing a strategic partnership between our countries,” Krykliy said.

The minister emphasized that Ukraine is interested in the early implementation of the Euro-Asian oil transportation corridor project with the purpose of organizing oil deliveries from the Caspian region to the markets of the European Union countries. “Ukraine continues to take steps to promote infrastructure reforms, implement and comply with European transport legislation,” he noted.

Krykliy informed that the Government plans to finance an unprecedented volume of reconstruction and repair works of highways. "I invite Azerbaijani contracting-companies to participate in tenders for the implementation of new joint projects. Thanks to the new law on concessions, our key investment object is the concession of infrastructure facilities, in particular seaports. Two concession tenders were held at Olvia and Kherson ports and winners were announced. We are working on a concession in the seaports "Mariupol" and "Berdyansk". We also offer concession tenders in the port of Odesa, ferry service at the port of Chornomorsk," he underlined.

According to the minister, besides seaports, the Infrastructure Ministry is also working on projects of concessions of roads, regional airports and railway stations. "Our competitions are transparent and open. We invite Azerbaijani companies to take part in new concession tenders," Krykliy stressed.
