Ukrinform
The next fifth round of trilateral talks on the continuation of Russian gas transit through Ukraine has begun in Berlin today, December 19.

The talks are being chaired by Vice-President of the European Commission for the Energy Union Maros Sefcovic, Ukrinform reports.

The delegations of Ukraine and the Russian Federation are headed by Energy Ministers Oleksiy Orzhel and Alexander Novak, respectively.

As expected, the talks will last the whole day.

Before the talks, Sefcovic had held a meeting with German Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Peter Altmaier.

As Ukrinform reported, the parties during the talks aim to reach a political agreement on a future contract between Russia and Ukraine that should regulate the duration, the volume of transit and the price of gas transit.

A meeting with the press is scheduled for 7.30 p.m. (Kyiv time).

The previous rounds of political negotiations were held on July 17, 2018 (Berlin), January 21, 2019, September 19, 2019 and October 28, 2019.
