Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Dmytro Kuleba welcomes a legislative resolution (ratification) of the European Parliament amending the economic part of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement regarding an increase in duty-free tariff rate quotas on poultry meat.

The official stated this in an exclusive comment to Ukrinform's correspondent in Strasbourg.

"This is an important example of the revision of the existing agreements, which helps improve trade and create new opportunities for Ukrainian exporters," Kuleba said.

This week, the European Parliament in Strasbourg ratified an agreement between the EU and Ukraine amending the economic part of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement to increase the duty-free tariff rate quota on Ukrainian poultry meat exports to EU member states.

The agreements envisage a gradual 2.5-time increase by 2021 - up to 70,000 tonnes per year – in duty-free quotas on exports of Ukrainian poultry meat and processed chicken meat.

Now, as part of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area between Ukraine and the EU, the annual duty-free tariff rate quota on exports of Ukrainian poultry meat is about 20,000 tonnes.

On July 30, Ukraine's Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and the European Union signed an agreement to increase quotas for Ukrainian exporters of poultry meat, provided for in the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement.

The EU views the agreements reached as eliminating the risk of potentially unlimited duty-free imports of Ukrainian poultry meat to the European market.
