Almost 120,000 tourists visited Chornobyl this year

Almost 120,000 tourists have visited the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone since the beginning of the current year.

Acting Head of the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management Oleksandr Kovalchuk stated this in his speech in Parliament on Wednesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"The exclusion zone is one of the most recognized tourist attractions in the world. Chornobyl has proven to be a good image and economically advantageous region of Ukraine. It should be noted that since the beginning of 2019, almost 120,000 people have visited the exclusion zone. Of whom 80% are foreigners,” Kovalchuk noted.

He has added that the agency is improving infrastructure and developing new routes in the exclusion zone.

According to Ukrinform, the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management has developed a bill on the zoning of the exclusion zone in accordance with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) safety standards.
