Former VAB Bank owner put on wanted list

Former VAB Bank owner Oleg Bakhmatyuk has been put on the national wanted list, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry has reported.

According to the ministry's database, Bakhmatyuk disappeared on November 21, 2019.

The former owner of VAB Bank is wanted by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU).

Earlier, NABU approved a suspicion notice to Bakhmatyuk in the case of obtaining a UAH 1.2 billion stabilization loan from the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).

According to the NBU's press service, Bakhmatyuk owes the state UAH 29.3 billion as a whole. The amount of the debt consists of UAH 11 billion to the Deposit Guarantee Fund, which paid this amount to the depositors of the two banks – Finansova Initsiatyva and VAB Bank owned by Bakhmatyuk, UAH 10.6 billion to the NBU under refinancing loans issued to the said banks, and UAH 7.7 billion to three state-owned banks.
