Countries in Central and Eastern Europe are preparing for a possible gas crisis caused by Russia's actions and are therefore trying to fill their gas storage facilities as much as possible, Vice-President of the Management Board at Polish oil and gas company PGNiG Maciej Wozniak has said.

"The countries of Central and Eastern Europe have never had their gas storage facilities 100% full. As a rule, it was 60% in the German market. Europe is waiting for a crisis, which can again be caused by a supplier from the east [Russia]. So it is preparing for this crisis," he said at a press conference in Warsaw on Thursday.

Wozniak said he was convinced that Europe is preparing for a situation where market moves alone will not be enough to resolve a possible crisis.

He noted that PGNiG wants to have over half a billion cubic meters of natural gas more in its storage facilities. According to him, the Polish company has already accumulated 400 million cubic meters of natural gas in Ukraine.
