Ukraine’s new energy strategy will incorporate the logic of development in terms of both energy and environmental issues.

"We will change the energy strategy. The energy strategy we have today is a strategy on paper. It does not correspond to the actual realities. What is important is that the ministry is new. We lay down a new logic of development as the Energy Ministry and the Environmental Protection Ministry were merged. This is a revolutionary step for Ukraine, we are getting rid of the decision-making conflict," Energy and Environmental Protection Minister of Ukraine Oleksiy Orzhel said during the Kyiv Economic Forum, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

According to him, the Energy Ministry and the Environmental Protection Ministry were in conflict at the government level.

"Now the decisions must be taken in view of long-term developmental KPIs," the minister said.

As reported, on June 6, 2018, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the Action Plan for the Implementation of the Energy Strategy of Ukraine until 2035 “Security, Energy Efficiency and Competitiveness.” The document focuses on the reforms of the electricity market, gas and the coal industry markets, in particular reducing the energy intensity of the economy by half by 2030 and increasing Ukrainian production of both traditional and alternative sources of energy.
