Defense and security spending will amount to 5.4% of GDP next year

The draft state budget for 2020 envisages UAH 245.8 billion or 5.4% of GDP for the national security and defense, and this is the largest amount of funds allocated for all years.

Ukrainian Finance Minister Oksana Markarova said this during a briefing at the Cabinet of Ministers on Tuesday, October 8.

“The entire budget for security and defense provides for UAH 245.8 billion, which is 5.4% of GDP. UAH 136.6 billion is what we heard from the president, and this is 3% directly for the Defense Ministry. This is the largest amount of funds allocated for defense over the years," Markarova said.

As reported, on September 15, the Cabinet of Ministers submitted for the Verkhovna Rada’s consideration a draft state budget for 2020.
