Energy Ministry, World Bank discuss investments in municipal solid waste management
“Energy and Environmental Protection Minister Oleksiy Orzhel discussed with the World Bank the common priorities for further cooperation. The parties expressed their interest in further fruitful cooperation in expanding the World Bank's investment projects portfolio in Ukraine and launching new energy projects. In particular, the minister suggested that the Bank representatives should consider opening directions for investing in municipal solid waste management,” the Ministry's press service posted on Facebook.
The minister drew the attention of the World Bank representatives to the fact that latest global trends show that only sustainable development of the energy sector with a strong focus on the fight with climate change and environmental protection can ensure its competitiveness at the global level.
“We look forward to a long and productive collaboration. In particular, we want to move away from the linear model and work on building processes in accordance with the principles of the circular economy. The first step is to launch a hierarchy of waste management. Such processes harmoniously fit into a single integrated energy system which we aim to create. This will allow us to use our resources efficiently and not to harm the environment,” Orzhel emphasized.
