Gerus: Coal and electricity prices should correspond to European ones

Coal and electricity prices in Ukraine should not be higher than those in Europe.
"The coal price for thermal power plants should not be higher than the price in Rotterdam. The electricity price should not be higher than the price in neighbouring countries - in Slovakia or Belarus. Currently, the electricity in the Ukrainian market per day is more expensive than in Slovakia. The coal is much more expensive than in Rotterdam," representative of the President of Ukraine in the Government Andriy Gerus said in an interview with the Glavcom online media outlet.
According to him, the reason for that is monopolization of local market and lack of competition.
"Accordingly, it is very easy to drive up prices and practice upon them in a monopolized market," Gerus added.
