The Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA) will invest about UAH 1 billion in the development of Azov Sea ports in 2018-2020, according to a report posted on the USPA website.

"The Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority will spend about UAH 1 billion on the implementation of infrastructure development projects in the ports of Mariupol and Berdiansk during 2018-2020. In particular, the issue concerns the reconstruction of the berth No. 4 as part of the project [...] to build a new grain terminal. In addition, a significant part of these funds will be used to restore nominal depths in both ports, which will help them fully utilize their technical capabilities on loading vessels and increase their competitiveness," USPA Chairman Raivis Veckagans said.

A 20% reduction in the cost of rail freight delivery, which was announced at the end of May this year, will also have a positive impact on the performance of Azov Sea ports, he said.

"I hope that in the near future the discount mechanism will be developed and approved at the level of the Infrastructure Ministry and Ukrzaliznytsia. This will significantly expand the capabilities of Mariupol and Berdiansk ports, make the sea logistics more accessible and convenient for existing and new cargo shippers and traders," Veckagans said.
