Poroshenko, Pompeo discuss need to preserve Ukraine’s macrofinancial stability

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko held a phone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

“The US Secretary of State congratulated the President of Ukraine on free competitive and democratic elections during the first round. Mike Pompeo assured of the support for Ukraine on the path of reforms and counteracting the ongoing Russian aggression.

The parties discussed the threats to renationalization of PrivatBank and the necessity of preserving macrofinancial stability of Ukraine,” the press service of the Head of State reports.

The U.S. Secretary of State assured that Washington would remain side by side with Ukraine in restoring its sovereignty and territorial integrity. In this context, the parties condemned Russia’s blocking of the Easter truce declared in Donbas.

Petro Poroshenko also condemned the use of the term "DNR/LNR rebels" with regard to Russian occupation troops in Donbas.

The President of Ukraine expressed gratitude for Washington's strong support and called for more active efforts, in particular regarding the release of Ukrainian hostages and seamen illegally kept in Russian prisons.

Mike Pompeo wished success to Petro Poroshenko during the second round of the presidential elections.
