Ukrainian agricultural exports grew by 24% in January-February 2019

In January-February 2019, Ukraine’s exports of agricultural products reached USD 3.5 billion, which is 24.4% or USD 683.8 million more compared to the corresponding period in 2018, the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry’s press service reported.

“In Ukraine’s total exports, agrarian and food products made up 43.9%. The largest share of exported products was formed by corn (33.6%), sunflower, safflower or cotton oil (20.13%) and wheat and the mixture of wheat and rye (11.84%),” acting Agrarian Policy and Food Minister Olha Trofimtseva said.

In addition, in January-February 2019, exports of the following products grew significantly: corn - by 84.4% (USD 528.4 million); wheat - by 27.8% (almost USD 90 million); press cake and other solids remaining after the extraction of sunflower oil - by 39.7% (USD 55.8 million); rape seeds - by 82.1% (USD 30.2 million); press cake and other solids remaining after the extraction of soybean oil – by 2.1 times (USD 26.2 million).

"In the regional structure of agricultural products’ exports, Ukraine exported the major share of products to Asia (USD 1.38 billion), EU countries (USD 1.25 billion), African countries (USD 559 million) and CIS countries (USD 217 million),” she added.

In January-February 2019, the top 10 major buyers of Ukrainian agricultural and food products included India (9.6%), Egypt (9.1%), Turkey (7.8%), the Netherlands (7.4%), Spain (6.7%), China (5.8%), Italy (3.8%), Poland (3.3%), Germany and Belarus (2.9%).
