Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman has ordered NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine and the Finance Ministry to initiate talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on the gas price for Ukrainians.

He stated this during a traditional hour of questions to the government in the Verkhovna Rada, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"I ordered NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine and the Finance Ministry to start a working discussion with the IMF in order to resolve this issue and prevent any increase in gas prices, following a proposal from Naftogaz of Ukraine," said Groysman.

He reminded that according to the government's resolution, the gas price for population cannot exceed UAH 8.55 per cubic meter.

As reported, Naftogaz CEO Andriy Kobolyev in a letter to Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman suggested that the Cabinet of Ministers abolish the regime of public service obligations (PSO) from April 1, 2019 and liberalize the gas market, which would lead to a reduction in gas prices for population.

On October 19, 2018, the Cabinet of Ministers signed resolution No.867 to raise gas prices for population. From November 1, the gas price for population grew by 23.5% and to UAH 8,550 per thousand cubic meters (VAT included).
