Warsaw and Washington argue against the implementation of the Nord Stream 2 project, which jeopardizes the security of the continent.

The relevant statement was made at a joint press conference of Polish Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Warsaw, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"We argue that the Nord Stream 2 project damages the energy security of Europe. We consider it to be unsuccessful and even harmful project for the energy security of the continent," Czaputowicz said.

As the minister noted, Poland and the United States supports in this matter the "pro-European stance", which the European Commission holds. In his opinion, those, who oppose the initiative of the European Commission on this project, are acting against the interests of the EU.

Czaputowicz also added that both countries condemned Russia's aggressive actions, especially against Ukraine. In this context, he called the actions of Russia in the Sea of Azov "unacceptable", and detention of Ukrainian sailors captured in the Kerch Strait "unreasonable."

In turn, Pompeo confirmed that the United States opposed the construction of Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

"It could strengthen the Russia’s superiority and make European countries dependent on Russian supplies," the U.S. Secretary of State said.
