Mingarelli: Next trilateral gas talks could be held in January

"The Vice-President for the Energy Union announced a new proposal to hold trilateral talks on a new contract on the transit of Russian gas with the participation of Ukraine and Russia in mid-January," Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Hugues Mingarelli said during a press conference “Results of the EU-Ukraine Association Council: European Integration Agenda for 2019” at the Ukrinform news agency.

He also informed that at the Association Council meeting Šefčovič drew attention to the need to continue the unbundling of the Naftogaz of Ukraine and the companies involved in electricity distribution as well as to ensure the independence of energy regulators and transparency in gas distribution.

As a reminder, the contract on the transit of Russian gas through the territory of Ukraine expires after 2019.

The European Union and Ukraine held the fifth meeting of the Association Council in Brussels on December 17.

The European Commission reported following the meeting of Vice-President of the European Commission for the Energy Union Maroš Šefčovič with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin on December 5 that the next round of trilateral talks between Russia, Ukraine and the European Union on the transit of Russian gas could take place in early 2019.
