Ukraine’s export of grains decreases by 12% - Institute of Agrarian Economics

Ukraine’s export of grain crops decreased by 12% in the first nine months of 2018 compared to the corresponding period last year, according to the Institute of Agrarian Economics.

"In January-September 2018, the export of domestic grain cops decreased by almost 12% compared to the corresponding period last year.  At the same time, the value of supplies decreased only by 2% and totaled $4.8 billion dollars,” Deputy Director of the National Science Center "Institute of Agrarian Economics” Mykola Puhachov said.

Thus, in the first nine months of 2018, Ukraine exported 11.2 million tonnes of wheat (worth $2.0 billion), 13.7 million tonnes of corn ($2.3 billion), and 2.5 million tonnes of barley ($ 0.5 billion).

The countries of Africa, Asia and Europe were the largest buyers of Ukrainian grain crops in January-September 2018, as well as last year.

In particular, Egypt takes the leading position in the ranking of largest importers of Ukrainian grains for several years in a row. Its share in overall Ukrainian grain export in January-September 2018 amounted to 11.5% in value terms, said the expert.

Among other largest importers of Ukrainian grains were China (8.8%), Spain (7.3%), the Netherlands (7.0%), Indonesia (5.9%), Saudi Arabia (5.7%), and Italy (5.0%).
