Ukraine and Japan will work on the resumption of work of the Ukraine-Japan Commission for Science and Technology Cooperation.

“It is strange that cooperation between our countries still occurs within the framework of the agreement between Japan and the Soviet Union. I would like to raise the issue of holding the meetings of the Ukraine-Japan Commission for Science and Technology Cooperation. Until 2013, three commission’s meetings took place, a memorandum was signed, but we did not proceed to the systematic implementation of our agreements. We propose to resume the work of this commission and move from signing documents to yielding results,” Ukrainian Education and Science Minister Lilia Hrynevych said during a meeting with Masahiko Shibayama, the newly appointed Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan, the press service of Ukraine’s Education and Science Ministry reports.

There is an increase in educational exchange between the students of the two countries, she added.

“With this in mind, I suggest that you think about the possibility of signing an agreement on mutual recognition of diplomas between our countries,” the Ukrainian minister noted.

In turn, the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan noted that the countries should first start consultations on the resumption of work of the bilateral commission in order to deepen cooperation.
