A Slovenian company will build a solar power plant in the city of Zhytomyr, according to Vice Prime Minister – Minister for Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities Hennadiy Zubko.

"I congratulate Zhytomyr on the start of an ambitious project - the construction of its own solar power plant with a capacity of 10.6 MW. The city has every chance to become the first city in Ukraine that will have own solar power plant," he wrote on his Facebook page.

The project will be financed through loan funds and financial support of the Government of Slovenia and the city guarantees. The solar power plant will be built by the Slovenian company Riko d.o.o., which won an open tender. The relevant contractual agreement was signed at the Embassy of Slovenia in Kyiv on July 30.

The construction of the power plant will be launched in the coming months. The project is expected to be completed in August 2019. The solar power plant will bring the city of Zhytomyr about EUR 1.65 million of additional revenues per year, as well as reduction in CO2 emissions, Zubko added.
