Ukraine, Poland to jointly oppose construction of Nord Stream 2

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the Local Development Forum in Truskavets, Lviv region, the Government portal reported.

"The parties discussed the prospects for Ukrainian-Polish cooperation and the attraction of EU financial and technical instruments for macro-regional development, in particular, for the development of the Carpathian region. The adoption of the Carpathian strategy and the promotion of this idea at the level of the EU institutions is actively supported by the incumbent Polish authorities at governmental and parliamentary levels," the statement reads.

In addition, the officials agreed to continue coordinating the common stance on opposing the construction of Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which poses a threat to the security of both countries and the EU.

It is underlined that the Polish side is considering the prospects for combining the energy infrastructure of the two states, in particular, construction of a gas interconnector as a strategic project in Central and Eastern Europe aimed at ensuring the transportation of gas from Poland to Ukraine.
