Gazprom files appeal in dispute with Naftogaz

"Additional study of the text of the ruling by internationally recognized linguistic experts showed that a significant portion of the text of the arbitration ruling was not written by the arbiters, but by some other persons. Obviously, nobody has the right to replace the arbiters," the company said.

Gazprom noted that the ruling on this dispute was "extremely important" for the parties and that interference by outside persons in the process was a violation of the arbitration agreement.

"The linguistic expert's conclusion on the authorship of the arbitration ruling on transit is new evidence of serious violations of Swedish law and the arbitration rules of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce in considering this case, which gives grounds for its complete cancellation," Gazprom said.

On February 28, 2018, the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce approved Naftogaz's demands to Gazprom concerning a gas transit lawsuit for $4.673 billion. Thus, in line with two arbitration rulings on the supply and transit of gas, Gazprom should pay the Ukrainian company $2.56 billion.
