The international reserves of Ukraine increased by $229 million during April 2018 and amounted to $18.421 million as of May 1.

"According to preliminary data, the international reserves of Ukraine increased by 1.3% in April and amounted to the equivalent of USD 18,421.1 million as of May 1, 2018," the press service of the National Bank of Ukraine reports.

The international reserves in March, as well as in the previous month, were primarily replenished on the account of the NBU’s FX market interventions. Prolonged excess of foreign currency supply over demand in the interbank market enabled the NBU to continue buying the surplus currency in the market to build up reserves without hindering the hryvnia exchange rate strengthening.

In April, the NBU bought a total of USD 326.7 million on the interbank market of Ukraine.
