Poroshenko signs law on Ukraine's accession to International Renewable Energy Agency

"President Petro Poroshenko has signed the law 'On Ukraine's Accession to the Statute of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA),'" the statement reads.

It notes that the implementation of this law will allow Ukraine to use world experience in the field of renewable energy sources, expand the possibility of attracting the best knowledge and advanced technologies in this area, as well as effective financial mechanisms for the implementation of relevant projects.

According to the Presidential Administration, Ukraine's participation in IRENA will facilitate the country's access to preferential loans and the receipt of recommendations for improving legislation in the field of renewable energy.

The president's press service also added that joining the IRENA Statute is another step towards clean and safe energy, which will help reduce the dependence of Ukraine's economy on imports of traditional energy resources and increase the efficiency of fuel and energy consumption.

On December 5, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the law "On Ukraine's Accession to the Statute of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)." A total of 254 people's deputies voted for the decision.
