In 2017, cargo transportation by rail in Ukraine grew by over 2% compared with the previous year.

Yevhen Kravtsov, the acting board chairman of Ukrzaliznytsia, stated this at a government's meeting on Wednesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“In the current year, we increased freight turnover by more than 2% or 3.5 billion tonne-kilometers. This means that the Ukrainian economy is recovering. In this process, it is extremely important that Ukrzaliznytsia be able to transport Ukrainian goods and ensure the development of Ukrainian exports,” he said.

Kravtsov also noted that a plan of priority projects on cargo transportation development for the next year had already been prepared.

"It includes a part on infrastructure facilities and a part on the rolling stock," Kravtsov added.
