NBU: 2017 was successful for Ukraine’s banking system

“The year 2017 was successful for the banking system. The sector became profitable due to an increase in operating profits. Not the last factor was a significant reduction in allocations to reserves, as well as lower interest rates, which contributed to the growth of interest income,” Rozhkova said at a press briefing dedicated to the financial stability report released by the NBU on December 18, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

Rozhkova also said that the resource base of banks was stable, although the NBU noted that in the second half of 2017, the growth rate of the resource base slightly slowed down. Also, there was a recovery of lending, and although it referred primarily to consumer lending, a recovery of lending to businesses was also recorded.
