Ukraine is interested in using Malta's unique experience and logistics capabilities to promote domestic products to the North African market, President Petro Poroshenko has said.

He stated this at a joint briefing with Maltese President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca on Tuesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Malta for Ukrainian business is actually the gateway to the North African market," Poroshenko said.

In this context, he noted that thanks to its exclusive experience this country could provide logistics and consulting services not only to big business, but also to small- and medium-sized enterprises in Ukraine.

"Detailed negotiations were held today on logistics services for exporters of Ukrainian agricultural and engineering products. We agreed to have great progress in this extremely important area, using Malta as a de facto logistics and investment hub," Poroshenko said.

According to him, a promising area of cooperation between Ukraine and Malta is the exchange of modern technologies, including in the field of energy efficiency and energy conservation. "We will effectively apply the unique experience of Malta," he said.

He also said that he had discussed with the Maltese president the development of engineering services, construction of infrastructure, cooperation in the fields of healthcare, pharmacology, financial transactions, and information technology.
