Kyiv gives $76 mln to prepare schools for new academic year

UAH 1.93 billion (about $76 million) was allocated from Kyiv's budget this year for preparations for the new academic year, which is UAH 800 million more than a year ago, First Deputy Head of Kyiv City State Administration Hennadiy Plis has said.

"UAH 1.93 billion was allocated from Kyiv's budget as of early August for preparations for the new academic year and the autumn-winter period, which is a fifth of the total budget of the industry and UAH 800 million more than in 2016," he said. 

Over UAH 1 billion was allocated for the construction and reconstruction of educational institutions, UAH 937.8 million for nine city programs, in particular, "The replacement of windows," "Preparations for the new academic year," "The purchase of computer equipment," "The purchase of furniture" and so on. About UAH 100 million was earmarked for household stuff (detergents, stationery, lamps, brooms, paper, crockery).

Kyiv now ranks third among the regions in terms of the amount of funds allocated for education, the report says.
