Ukraine reduced coal production by 2.9% in H1 2017

Ukraine’s production of coal decreased by 558,400 tonnes, or 2.9%, in January-June 2017, compared to the same period in 2016.  

This has been stated in an information note on the main indicators of the Ukrainian fuel and energy industry development over the first six months of 2017, available to Ukrinform.

"In January-June, 2017, coal-mining enterprises of Ukraine produced 558.4 thousand tonnes of coal (or 2.9%) less than in the corresponding period of 2016. In particular, it was produced 185.5 thousand tonnes of coal (or 1.3%) more compared to the corresponding period last year, while the production of coking coal dropped by 743.9 thousand tonnes (or 17.6%),” reads the note.

In January-June 2017, the total amount of coal produced by coal-mining enterprises, which are subordinated to the Energy Ministry of Ukraine, decreased by 651.3 thousand tonnes (or by 21.6%) in comparison with the corresponding period last year. In particular, the production of steam coal decreased by 520.6 thousand tonnes (or 21.3%), coking coal - by 130.7 thousand tonnes (or by 22.5%).
