Poroshenko: Ukraine has not bought Russian gas for more than 500 days already

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said this on the occasion of signing the law on the Energy Efficiency Fund, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Our decisive actions, including securing reverse gas flows, buying gas in the EU and taking harsh steps to restore the energy sector have helped us to buy not a single cubic meter of gas from Russia for more than 500 days," Poroshenko said.

Moreover, the President added that Ukraine had rejected Russia’s proposal to buy gas made in April 2016. He noted that Ukraine would no longer overpay for Russian gas as it had done over 23 past years.

Poroshenko also reminded of the decision of Stockholm Arbitration, which confirmed that Ukraine overpaid to Russia billions that could have been spent on the army and energy efficiency.
